Sodium cyanodithioformate (1)'and disodium dimercaptomaleonite (3)'have proved to be valuable entries into the field of thiacyanocarbons,;. e., cyanocarbons containing sulfur atoms. A study of the chemistry and stereochemistry of cis-3 and the new isomer, disodium dimercaptofumaronitrile, trans-16, was carried out.
