The reaction of 1-acylpyridinium salts with nucleophiles has proven to be a valuable method for the synthesis of substituted dihydropyridines and pyridines. 132 However, the nucleophilic addition is frequently not regiospecific, and a mixture of isomeric dihydropyridines results.
