Conclusions The observed rate constants for the reactions of arylhalocarbenes with alkenes are accelerated by the application of moderate pressures. The magnitude of the activation volumes falls in the range-10 to-18 cm3/mol for rate constants that vary from ca. 5 X lo8 to ca. 1 X lo6 MI sl and are not sensitive to solvent.
