Conclusions In contrast with the I, l-diarylethylenes which show a onering/two-ring flip dichotomy of rotational pathways, helical benzophenones undergo a helicity reversal process exclusively via a one-ring flip process. This is ascribed to the larger Ar-C= X conjugation energy for X= 0 (benzophenones) than in X= CR2 (1, l-diarylethylenes).
