The bromochlorinations of 1-phenylpropenes with tetrabutylammonium dichlorobromate (1– ) in aprotic solvents (dielectric constants 5–36) were found to be completely anti stereospecific and nonregiospecific, although Markownikoff adduct was mainly formed.
