Conclusions Molecular mechanics calculations are applied to inclusion compounds formed by cyanine dye monomers or dimers and 8-or y-CD. These calculations account for the stabilization of the total system by the inclusion process and explain why the (MX) 2-j3-CD system is much less stable than other systems.
