was heated at 95'. The oily free aldehyde that formed was extracted into EtzO. The Et20 was evaporated and the residue was dissolved in a mixture of MeOH (30 ml), HzO (5 ml), and KOH (2.8 g), and the solution was heated at 80'for 1 h.
