Abstract Ketophosphorylenes of the general type (C 6 H 5) 3 P= C (OCH 3) COR can easily be prepared from (C 6 H 5) 3 P= CH− OCH 3 and RCOCl. Reaction of these compounds with the above mentioned oxidizing agents leads to the methyl esters of α-ketoacids (RCOCOOCH 3).
