4, 4-Dihydroxy-3, 3-dinitrodiphenyl ether (4) and 1, 3-bis (4-hydroxy-3-nitrophenoxy) benzene (9) are valuable precursors of 3, 3-diamino-4, 4-dihydroxydiphenyl ether1 (5) and 1, 3-bis (3-amino-4-hydroxyphenoxy) benzene2 (10) respectively.
