Although the conversion of methyl ketones into monosubstituted acetylenes is a wellknown reaction [2], it has not hitherto been carried Out using aminoketones. We have found that it is preferable to convert the aminoketone to its hydrochloride and treat this with phosphorus pentachloride in solution in POCI3.
