Abstract The reaction of organozinc compounds RCH CHCH 2 ZnBr with ethyl chloroformate gives β-ethylenic esters CH 2 CHCH (R) COOC 2 H 5 in good yields; these esters are readily converted to the corresponding α-ethylenic esters on treatment with piperidine.
