Although many examples were provided to demonstrate the utility of this sequence,? it still suffers from several disadvantages:(a) successive low-temperature steps are required for the formation of 2 and 3,(b) the use of alkyllithium reagents which are not universally available, and (c) isolation of 2 and 3 which results in loss of material and time.
