The solution and flash vacuum pyrolyses of~-(3, 5-disubstituted-phenyl) ethanesulfonyl azides are reported. When R= Me, FVP results suggest that the substituents stabilize the intermediate leading to the 3, 4-di-hydro-2, l-benzothiazepine 2, 2-dioxide (6a).
