Echinacea angustifolia DC. at one time had a reputation for antiseptic and analgetic properties' to various Indian tribes of Nebraska. Voaden and Jacobson2 have isolated a constituent of the root oil of Echinacea angustifolia DC. and E. pallida (NuTT.) and identified it as (Z)-1,8- pentadecadiene and its trans-isomer.
