It has been reported1) that the reaction of 3-bromotropolone(I) and sodium phenoxide affords 3-phenoxytropolone(II) and that its phenoxyl group is not hydrolyzed by heating it with concentrated hydrochloric acid, as in diphenyl ether. In order to make clear the behavior of the phenoxyl group attached to the tropone or tropolone ring, in comparison with diphenyl ether, 2-phenoxytropone(III) and its derivatives were prepared from II and the reactivities ...
