Abstract A number of 1, 2, 3-butatrienes, R 1 R 2 C [DOUBLE BOND] C [DOUBLE BOND] C [DOUBLE BOND] CH 2 (1; R 1= H, Me or t-Bu; R 2= H or Me) have been allowed to react with organocuprates of the type R 3 2 CuMgX· LiBr (2; R 3= alkyl or Ph) in tetrahydrofuran. In most cases the (E)-1, 3-dienes R 1 R 2 C [DOUBLE BOND] CH [BOND] CR 3 [DOUBLE BOND] CH 2 (3) are formed mainly but sometimes substantial amounts of the compounds ...
