Summary. Condensation of (2-iodophenyl) ethylamines with cyclohexanoylacetaldehyde provided the corresponding aldimines which were reduced yielding secondary phenethylcyclohexanoylethylamines. These in turn were appropriate intermediates to prepare several erythrinanes by a sequential intramolecular Strecker and intramolecular Bruylants reaction.
