1-Deoxy-D-xylulose-5-phosphate (DXP) is a key intermediate in the non-mevalonate pathway to terpenoids in bacteria, and it is the substrate for the enzyme 1-deoxy-D-xylulose- 5-phosphate reductoisomerase (DXP-R).
