Abstract Acidolysis and hydrolysis of 2-acetoxyethanephosphonic acid dimethyl ester 2 and 2-hydroxyethanephosphonic acid dimethyl ester 3 and their derivatives leads to 2- hydroxyethanephosphonic acid 1.
