Abstract: The new perester, tert-butyl 2, 2-diphenyl-3, 3-dimethylperbutanoate, IC, has been prepared and found to undergo first order homolysis with k= 2.39 X lop5 sec-'at 26", about eightfold more slowly than the previously prepared triphenylperacetate (Ib).
