Ligands derived from N-alkyl- or N-aryl-bis(2-{pyrid-2-yl}ethyl)amines have played a central role in biomimetic coordination chemistry, particularly in delineating the mechanism of O 2 binding and activation by copper 1 and iron 2 centres.
