A pentafluorophenol active-ester porphyrin has been synthesised and covalently attached to an aminopropylsilylated glass surface by amide bond formation. Zinc is inserted into the surface-bound porphyrins and their interaction with amine ligands is investigated by UV–VIS spectroscopy.
