The preparation is reported of basic carbinols of general type A, C6HsC (R)-X--N N-R', where R is aryl, cyclohexyl or methyl, X is CO or a straight or branched chain alkylene radical, and R'is hydrogen, alkyl or arylalkyl. In several instances the hydroxyl is replaced by other functional groups. Monoquaternary salts and dihydrochlorides of most of the bases are prepared.
