摘要

The synthesis of 5-phenyl-8-methoxythiochromanone by the hydrogen fluoride cyclization of j3-carboxyethyl4-methoxy-3-xenyl sulfide is described, The latter has been prepared by the addition of the appropriate thiophenol to methyl acrylate, or, more conveniently, by the action of diazotized 3-amino-4-methoxybiphenyl on j3-mercaptopropionic acid in an acetate buffer.
