Abstract

The first results obtained with compounds related to 1 and 2 indicated that DNA intercalation was a necessary but not a sufficient condition to retain activity. 4~~ Further studies were done with the tricyclic series 3Ia and 4: which correspond to the heterocyclic systems 1 and 2 simplified by deletion of an aromatic ring.
