Abstract

We report its preparation as well as that of 2-alkylcyclohexane-1, 3-diones 2a-c needed in related ongoing studies. Rather than directly preparing 2-unsubstituted cyclohexane-1, 3- diones and then alkylating, a sequence known to proceed with modest efficiency at best, 3 we extended the method of Piers and Grierson4 for incorporating the alkyl group between the two carbonyl moieties.
