Abstract

Several minor products of unknown structure, together usually comprising less than 2% of the total product yields, were also formed in all runs. They appeared as inseparable, overlapping peaks in GLPC analyses. Interestingly, when commercial “Grignard grade” magnesium turnings were used to prepare the Grignard reagent, significant amounts (ranging up to 10%) of 4-isobutyl-2, 6-dimethyl-phenol were obtained.
