Abstract: The first silylenium ions (R3Si+) have been produced in solution. They are generated in polar solvents of low nucleophilicity, including CH2C12, CICH2CH2CI, CH3CN, and sulfolane. Tris (alky1thio) silyl cations [(R'S) $ i", R'= Me, Et, i-Pr] are produced by treatment of the corresponding silane with trityl perchlorate.
