Abstract A series of soluble and stable bisanthracene bis (dicarboxylic imide) s M1–M4 were synthesized that display intensive absorptions in the NIR region. The fully fused bisanthracene carboximide M1 exhibited absorption maximum at 830 nm, with a significant 130 nm bathochromic shift in comparison with the partially fused anthracene dimers M2–M4.
