Abstract

Presumably, compounds VI and VI1 cannot be formed via an attack by a chloronium ion (el+) in the first step, since this would lead to a Wagner-Meenvein rearrangement. The formation of the camphane derivatives VI11 and IX in relatively small quantities, however, is best explained in this way.
