Although the methyl and ethyl esters of the more common a-amino acids have been described, in many instances the corresponding esters of the higher alcohols are unknown. The work described in the present paper was undertaken in order to obtain information regarding the properties and, in particular, the stability toward cy-clization of the higher esters of a-aminoisobutyric acid.
