Abstract

A general synthesis of 4-benzophosphonia-pyrans, a new series of phosphorus and oxygen heterocycles is described. The phosphonium nature of the cations is demonstrated. Their physical properties (UV, 31P-NMR) are compared with those of previously-studied 4- phosphonia-pyrans, as a function of substituents. An exaltation of the phenomena in the present series is pointed out.
