Abstract

Biological cell surfaces present dense areas known as “glycocalyx” with the carbohydrate systems conjugated to lipids or proteins. 1 This led to the concept of a “glycocode”, in other words biological information transfer by sugars. 2 This spatial coding offers huge numbers of structural permutations for oligosaccharides sequences through variation of glycosidic linkage position as well as orientation.
