Abstract

Organosulfur compounds such as sulfoxides and sulfones are important as intermediates in the synthesis of natural products and biologically significant molecules, 1 ligands in asymmetric catalysis, 2 and oxo-transfer reagents. 3 The selective oxidation of sulfides to sulfoxides is conventionally achieved by using stoichiometric oxidants such as peracids, dioxiranes, NaIO 4 , MnO 2 , CrO 3 , SeO 2 , and PhIO. 4 These stoichiometric systems are not atom-efficient.
