Abstract

This paper deals with the synthesis and preliminary study of a new series of compounds which should yield diastereoisomeric reduction products. A study of the stereochemistry of reduction is in progress in this Laboratory and will be treated in a later paper. Cis-p- benzoyldimethylacrylic Acid (II).-The Friedel and Crafts reaction on dimethylmaleic anhydride gives cis-benzoyldimethylacrylic acid (11) in good yield as the sole product. ...
