Abstract

Although numerous reagents have been proposed for the identification of phenols,'- 'nevertheless serious objections may be raised against most of them. The method of Koelsch'is perhaps the best but many of his derivatives melt so close together that identification is difficult, whereas the o-and p-nitrophenols were not obtained.
