It participates in the conversion of terminal alkynes to linear alcohols.Catalyst mediates the transformation of alkynes to alcohols through ananti-Markovnikov addition. This reaction occurs at room temperature with the use of formic acid to assist in the reduction of the intermediate aldehyde to the corresponding alcohol.
