Isomeric pairs of methoxylated 3-aroylflavones (I) and (X) have been prepared from the benzoyl-o-hydroxybenzoylmethanes (IV) and (VIII). The latter were condensed with aromatic aldehydes R 'CHO and RCHO, respectively, to give the arylidene derivatives (VII) and (IX),
