Abstract

The condensation of aldehydes with methyl/ethyl diazoacetate in the presence of catalytic amount of yttria??zirconia based Lewis acid afforded the corresponding ß??keto esters in good to excellent yields (Table 1). The aliphatic aldehyde reacted faster than aromatic (Table 1, entry 1). The substitution pattern in the aromatic ring has distinctive influence on the rate of reaction.
