Abstract

Abstract Dehydration of N, N′-diaroylbutanodihydrazides 3a–f with phosphoryl chloride gave, unexpectedly, 2, 5-diaryl-1, 3, 4-oxadiazoles 4a–f. However, dehydration of N, N′- dialkanoylbutanodihydrazides 1a–c afforded 5, 5′-dialkyl-2, 2′-(1, 2-ethandiyl)-bis (1, 3, 4- oxadiazoles) 2a–c.
