Abstract

Abstract Märkl's cyclic phosphonium salt synthesis was studied and some mechanistic conclusions drawn. The reaction was found to be generally applicable to the synthesis of C- methylated five-, six-, seven-and eight-membered ring systems. The first authenticated synthesis of a phosphocane is reported.
