Abstract: The synthesis of a novel class of reactive organosulfur-nitrogen compounds, N- alkylidenearenesulfinamides (sulfinimines), 1, prepared by oxidation of the corresponding sulfenimines, 2, is described. Thermally, these compounds rearrange via a concerted or nearly concerted mechanism to afford nitrile and arenesulfenic acid (ArSOH).
