Abstract: The four stereoisomeric 2, 5-di-t-butylcyclohexanols have been prepared and subjected to detailed thermodynamic and conformational analysis, and chemical reactivity studies. The cis, trans-isomer 1, which exists in a chair conformation with an axial hydroxyl, is more thermodynamically stable than the trans, cis-isomer 2 which exists in a chair conformation with an equatorial hydroxyl.
