Abstract

The addition of bromine in methanol to t-butylethylene produces 1, 2-dibromo-3, 3- dimethylbutane(IV) and 2-bromo-lmethoxy-3, 3-dimethylbutane (VI) in roughly equal amounts. The addition of bromine in methanol to 1-hexene produces about 31% of 1, 2- dibromohexane and 59y0 of a mixture of 1-bromo-2-methoxyhexane and 2-bromo-1- methoxyhexane in the ratio four-to-one, respectively.
