Abstract

Acetonitrile is a common solvent in organometallic chemistry, which can coordinate to a metal center as a weak ligand. The acetonitrile CÀCN bond is usually inert to transition metals because it has a rather strong CÀCN bond energy (133 kcalmolÀ1) compared to an alkane CÀC bond energy (ca. 83 kcalmolÀ1).
