Perylenediimides (PDIs) offer a number of attractive characteristics as alternatives to fullerenes in organic photovoltaics (OPVs), including favorable orbital energetics, high extinction coefficients in the visible spectral region, photostability, and the capacity to self- assemble into ordered nanostructures.
