Abstract

Monomethyl Derivative (V).-Five-tenths gram of substance I11 was heated with 2 cc. of normal sodium hydroxide for ten minutes. After cooling the solution wa5 acidified with dilute suifuric acid; the product separated at once and was recrystallized from dilute methanol or from a large amount of water, as prismatic glistening white needles, of mp 278-280".
