Abstract
Disulfiram inhibits hepatic aldehyde dehydrogenase (ALDH) causing an accumulation of acetaldehyde after ethanol ingestion. It is thought that disulfiram is too short-lived in vivo to directly inhibit ALDH, but instead is biotransformed to reactive metabolites that inhibit the enzyme.
