Abstract

Bromoterephthalaldehyde has now been subjected to Cannizzaro reaction conditions and rather similar results have been observed. The products formed are: the diacid (15% yield), 3-bromo-4-hydroxymethyl-benzoic acid (63% yield), and the diol (19% yield); total yield, 97%.
