Abstract
Serles d: Ar= 12-benz [a] anthracenyl Serles c: Ar= 5-chrysenyl because it would provide formyl esters that could be cyclized to provide functionalized B [a] P's. This approach proved successful, allowing the isolation of formyl esters 4a-d. At this point, a mild cyclizing agent was necessary because when 4a-d were allowed to react under standard acidic cyclization conditions (polyphosphoric acid, sulphuric acid, HF, etc.) low yields of product and large ...
